Is it right to criticize others for having a different opinion?

I've always thought that people who belittle the opinions of others - like this Noah Antwiler you're describing - are frightened that someone will offer an opinion that makes more sense or present an argument that supports a differing point of view in a way that they cannot match with logic. It is very similar to being the playground bully.
